1. Tap Titans 2: the closest thing on a phone

Everything Clicker Heroes taught you works here: you tap as the Sword Master, hire heroes who fight on their own, push through stages and reset for permanent bonuses. On top of that come pets, equipment, a skill tree, and clans with co-op raids and tournaments. If you want more of exactly the same feeling, start here.

2. Turbo Tap Masters: the active one

Ours, so take this with the right amount of salt. Turbo Tap Masters keeps the core of Clicker Heroes (hit the monster, get stronger, beat the boss) and drops the waiting. Monsters hit back, a round can be lost, and progress only happens while you play. Instead of hero levels you collect weapons, armour and hats with their own stats, put gems into their sockets and refine them at the forge. After level 10 you pick one of five classes, and ranked duels put your build against other players.

Not for you if the best part of Clicker Heroes was leaving it running overnight. For you if the best part was the first ten minutes of every new zone.

3. Almost a Hero: Clicker Heroes with jokes

A roster of underqualified heroes, a familiar clicker RPG loop and a sense of humour about both. Smaller than Clicker Heroes, and easier to pick up.

4. Realm Grinder: for the theorycrafters

If you spent more time planning your next reset in Clicker Heroes than clicking, Realm Grinder is the deep end. You click for coins and build a realm, then choose factions whose bonuses change the whole economy. Very little fighting, an enormous amount of strategy.

5. Idle Slayer: the arcade cousin

A side-scrolling runner with a clicker inside it. You jump and slash in short active bursts while the upgrades keep stacking. A good palate cleanser between long sessions of anything else on this list.

Clicker RPG or tap RPG?

Same family. "Clicker" comes from the mouse, "tap" from the touch screen, and on phones the two words describe the same kind of game.
